A recent study has shown that dogs do in fact have the surprising ability to make humans understand exactly what their barks mean. It also turns out that women are apparently better than men at recognising the emotions emitted by a canine, especially if the dog exerts moods of playfulness, threat or fear, scientists discovered.

Throughout the year – every year – Battersea Dogs & Cats home takes in hundreds of dogs and cats. However, it’s not often that the staff in south London are greeted by an unusually long-eared animal at the entrance to their shelter. That’s right, a Mini Lop rabbit arrived at Battersea’s London centre on Monday after a kind member of the public found her on a roadside not far from the charity!

In an astonishing show of bravery, a fearless dog has managed to scare off a much bigger black bear from his owner’s patio in Bradbury, California. A news helicopter was able to capture the footage of the dog chasing away the bear after the large mammal had wandered onto private property and took a dip in a backyard pool. The bear then engages in a standoff with the courageous canine before chasing the bear away and into the forest beyond. Talk about a fearless dog!

An aardvark by the name of Gertie was brought to vet Erika de Jager’s attention at her practice in Tsumeb, Namibia, after she was separated from her mother. The poor mammal was immensely dehydrated and knocking on deaths door before Erika nursed her back to health and eventually, decided to keep her as a pet!
