New Poll Reveals Spaniels as the Least Spoilt Breed in the UK
A recent survey by Peamutt Butter, a dog food brand, has unveiled interesting insights into how UK dog owners spoil their pets. Spaniel owners emerged as the least indulgent, while breeds like Boxers, Corgis, and French Bulldogs topped the list of most spoilt dogs.
The survey, which included 2,000 British dog owners, highlighted significant differences in how various breeds are pampered. Spaniel owners, for instance, spend no more than £20 on gifts for their pets. They are also the least likely to work from home to avoid spoiling their dogs (73%) and rarely cancel social plans for their pets (13%).
In contrast, Corgi owners prioritise training, with 37% spending up to £1,500, which is six times the national average. Poodle owners double the national average in grooming costs, spending around £600 per year.
High Spending Breeds
Great Dane owners are notable for their substantial expenditure on dog treats, with a third spending up to £5,000 annually. Beagle owners also rank high in treat spending, with 25% being big spenders in this category.
German Pointer owners lead in gift spending, with 33% admitting to spending between £600 and £1,000 per birthday. Close behind are Boxers, Corgis, and Bulldogs, each with 10% of owners spending similarly high amounts.
Dachshunds receive the most extravagant Christmas gifts, with 67% of owners spending more than £1,000 on presents. In terms of emotional bonding, German Pointer owners are most likely to confide in their dogs (83%), followed by Dachshund (66%) and Boxer owners (57%).
Boxer owners are unique in their conversations, often discussing politics with their pets (22%). Great Dane owners tend to talk about their dating lives (66%), and Labrador owners frequently chat about their partners.
Lifestyle Choices Influenced by Dogs
Border Collie owners are the most likely to cancel plans with friends to stay home with their dogs (50%). Golden Retriever owners often consider not leaving the country to avoid leaving their pets behind (63%).
The trend of treating dogs as family members is evident among Pug owners, with 67% referring to their pets as "fur babies." Terrier owners, however, are less likely to share this sentiment (12%).
Sally Addenbrook from Peamutt Butter commented, “No matter the breed, we love to cherish and treat our dogs. Peamutt Butter is perfect for enriching our dog’s days and is a tasty treat they’ll love. Spread on a lick mat, it can keep them busy, calm them down, and reduce anxiety. Peamutt Butter is an affordable choice, so even Spaniels can have a bit of a treat sometimes.”
According to the survey, British dog owners spend an average of £225 per year on training, £322 on grooming, and £321 on treats and snacks. However, these figures vary widely depending on the breed, with some owners spending significantly more to spoil their pets.
By understanding these spending habits, businesses catering to dog owners can better tailor their products and services to meet the diverse needs and preferences of different dog breeds and their owners.
