Situated in Snowdonia National Park, the classic traverse of Crib Goch is a good testing ground to establish your dog’s capabilities on the hill. Depending on his/her abilities and level of fearlessness it’s advisable to take the route across the North ridge rather than over it. Suitable for most dog sizes, I wouldn’t take anything smaller than a Jack Russell due to the routes narrow and rocky paths and larger rock-steps. Yet, it’s a great way of establishing how sure-footed your pup might be with the route consisting of a grade 1 scramble towards the lowest scale. The most difficult section of the route comes in the final third with a large rock step in which your pup may have to be hauled up rather than jump alone. If, prior to your adventure you aren’t feeling entirely confident then use a long lead to stay in control and a harness to prevent your dog from acting irrationally and rushing at obstacles.
