Happy New Year! We’re excited about 2017 and we hope you are too! Get the year off to a great start with some dog-friendly events or learn a new dog-related skill at one of these events taking place across the UK this month.


1st January

New Year’s Day Dipper

Join the Forever Hounds Trust for its third annual New Year’s Day Dipper, and go for a bold and bracing swim in the sea from Bigbury Beach in Devon (postcode TQ7 4AS). Or come along with your four-legged friend and cheer on the swimmers.

Dress up your Dog Day

The True CRIME Museum in Hastings is encouraging dog owners to take advantage of FREE admission to the attraction if they bring along their beloved pooches!
Dress up your dog and enjoy a family day out celebrating dog-friendly businesses. Canine visitors receive a free treat on entrance and there are some great photo opportunities at the Museum’s ‘Dog Mug Shot Wall’.

K9 Crusaders Yappy New Year fun dog show and party

Expect games of musical mats, pass the parcel and plenty of prizes, with proceeds going to help care for, rehabilitate and rehome the rescue dogs of this Cornish-based group. Event starts at 11am at Perranarworthal Village Hall, Perranwell Station, Truro, TR3 7NJ.

A one-day seminar with Chirag Patel

The behaviour and training consultant provides a one-day seminar on the theme of empowerment - how do we give our canine learners choice and control during training? Presentations and discussions will focus on the training behaviours for animal care. These include rethinking muzzle training, working in protected contact systems, training for veterinary procedures, such as injections and health checks, as well as training skills that are essential for everyday care. Event takes place at Basildon Village Hall, Bethesda Street, Upper Basildon, RG8 8NU at 9.30am for registration for a 10am start. £79 per person.

Canine first aid workshop

For dog owners and professionals. Join instructor Rachel bean, an experienced veterinary nurse adept at dealing with accidents and emergencies. Event covers a day of theoretical tuition, practical coaching and assessment in a small group, and the price includes booking fees and refreshments. Places are limited. Event takes place between 10am to 4pm at Comfort and Nourish at 58 High Street, Chobham, Surrey, GU24 8AA. Cost is £55.
