High quality turmeric extract containing 95% curcuminoids, with added piperine for increased absorption
Our specially formulated Turmeric Tablets for dogs and cats are made using a pure and potent extract. Consisting of 95% curcuminoids - the active part of turmeric - they can help support your pet`s natural anti-inflammatory processes. This may be of particular benefit to pets with troublesome joints. Extracted from whole root and with added Bioperine® (black pepper extract) to help boost absorption, you can be sure that our supplement has maximised quality and bioavailability.
What is turmeric?
Turmeric is the latest wonder herb from Southern India and is in the same family of herbs as ginger. The rhizome is the part of the plant that is eaten - this is the underground, horizontal stem, commonly termed the root.
The therapeutic actions of turmeric have widely been attributed to compounds it contains called curcuminoids. There are three main curcuminoids but the most common and well known is curcumin, which makes up 80% of the total curcuminoids in turmeric. However, curcuminoids only account for 2-6% of the root’s content and the whole root provides activities superior to curcumin alone. By taking supplements created using the whole root you get a whole host of other benefits from all the other compounds that make up turmeric, as well as the curcuminoids.
What are the benefits of using turmeric?
Historically, turmeric is well known for its naturally supportive properties in anti-inflammatory processes. There are likely to be many other benefits to taking turmeric though and studies are ongoing to discover them, so watch this space! Why Dorwest Turmeric Tablets?
Easy to absorb
Unfortunately, the bioavailability of curcumin has been found to be low. This is the proportion of curcumin that can be absorbed and enter the blood circulation following ingestion, which can then have active effects on the body. Luckily, we have a solution though - by adding in a compound found naturally in black pepper called piperine (Bioperine®) the bioavailability of curcumin is increased. In fact, one study has found that taking piperine along with curcumin can increase its bioavailability by 2000%!
Standardised, traceable and sustainable
With the popularity of turmeric soaring there are unfortunately those wanting to make a ‘quick buck’ by selling low-quality produce. Turmeric has even been found to be mixed with other ingredients and artificially coloured. Good quality turmeric and curcumin supplements for dogs and cats will contain a standardised amount of curcuminoids of 95%. Our Turmeric Tablets were made with this in mind and contain 95% curcuminoids, with each tablet providing 175mg of whole root turmeric extract, equivalent to 7175mg dry whole root.
Our Turmeric Tablets are fully traceable and vigorously tested from source to end product to ensure a pure and consistent high quality. We only use sustainable sources, opting for turmeric grown using traditional small farming methods in Southern India, as our impact on the environment and local communities is very important to us here at Dorwest.
We know it might be tempting to use turmeric you see on the supermarket shelves but the turmeric we use for our dogs and cats must be of medicinal quality; culinary turmeric is produced for taste, not the quality of the curcuminoid compounds.
Is turmeric safe to give?
Turmeric is thought amongst herbalists to be a very safe herb but it is important to discuss its use with your vet before you give it to your pet, especially if they are taking any medication or about to undergo elective surgery. It’s important to note that turmeric reportedly has anti-coagulant properties which could exacerbate clotting disorders.
