The Great Global Greyhound Walk returns!

The Great Global Greyhound Walk (GGGW) returns – in October. Usually taking place in June, this year’s GGGW has been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and will take place on Sunday 4 October.

Organisers hope that the new date will allow most countries to walk in groups whilst joining ‘together’ across the world, celebrating greyhounds. Originally named the Great British Greyhound Walk, the annual event was begun by the charity Greyhound Walks and has since grown global, with organised walks around the world to raise awareness of the breed and funds for rehoming charities.

The 2019 GGGW saw nearly 8,800 sighthounds walking ‘together’ across the globe last year, the aim is now for 10,000 hounds. The theme for the event on Sunday 4th October is the colour blue, and people and hounds are encouraged to wear it while taking part to the hundreds of walks organised across the world to promote greyhounds and sighthounds as pets.Of course, the safety of participants is paramount.

“There is the option to register ‘little local walks’ where with smaller groups, social distancing would be more likely to be maintained,” a statement reads.

“For those with more severe government measures in place, there is also the option of a ‘private’ walk, where you register to walk alone but will still be united ‘together’ and count towards the final figures.”

Registrations for walks can be made via the GGGW website.
